“I am deeply shocked and appalled by the incident that occurred last night in Millisle, where two pedestrians were struck by a vehicle outside licensed premises on Main Street.

My thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families during what must be an incredibly traumatic and distressing time. I want to pay tribute to the emergency services and the PSNI for their swift response and for apprehending a suspect so quickly.

This was a shocking and reckless act that has caused real fear and upset within the local community. Let me be absolutely clear: whoever is responsible must face the full rigours of the law, and that process must be carried out in a fully open and transparent manner. The public rightly expects accountability and justice in the face of such serious incidents.

I stand with the people of Millisle and urge anyone who witnessed the incident or who may have relevant dashcam footage to come forward and assist the PSNI. It is vital that we support the police in their investigation to ensure justice is done — and seen to be done.

My office remains available to support any constituents affected by this dreadful incident.”
