Alex Easton MP, joined by Councillor Wesley Irvine, was honoured to attend the official naming ceremony and service of dedication for Bangor’s new RNLI lifeboat, Ruby Robinson, held at Bangor Lifeboat Station.
This important occasion celebrated both the arrival of a state-of-the-art Atlantic 85 class lifeboat and the 60th anniversary of Bangor RNLI’s dedicated service to the local community and surrounding coastline.
Speaking after the event, Alex Easton MP said:
“It was a tremendous privilege to witness the naming of the new lifeboat, Ruby Robinson. This vessel will play a crucial role in saving lives at sea and is a powerful symbol of community support, courage, and generosity. We are incredibly proud of our RNLI volunteers who continue to put themselves at risk to protect others. Bangor is safer thanks to their efforts, and this lifeboat will ensure they are equipped to meet the challenges of modern rescue operations.”
The Ruby Robinson was funded through a generous legacy left by the late Dennis Filby, in memory of his dear friend. Since arriving on station, the lifeboat has already launched on numerous occasions, assisting those in distress and saving lives — a testament to its capability and the commitment of the crew.
The dedication ceremony was attended by RNLI personnel, supporters, donors, and local residents, all of whom came together to show their appreciation and support for Bangor RNLI’s ongoing mission.
Alex Easton MP extended his heartfelt thanks to all RNLI volunteers — past and present — and to everyone who contributes to the charity’s life-saving work. He reaffirmed his full support for Bangor RNLI and commended the organisation for its continued service to the people of North Down.
