I am deeply concerned by the recent figures showing that Ards and North Down experienced the biggest increase in potholes last year, with a staggering 7,003 reported cases. This alarming statistic highlights not just a surface-level issue but a deeper problem of inadequate funding and attention to the specific infrastructure needs of North Down.

Despite having a shorter road network, North Down endures disproportionately high traffic volumes, significantly impacted by daily commuter and commercial traffic. This strain on our roads has been compounded by years of under funding and insufficient investment in maintenance and repair.

The current state of our roads is not only a matter of inconvenience but also a serious safety concern for residents, commuters, and businesses alike. It is unacceptable that the people of North Down are left to navigate deteriorating infrastructure while funding priorities seem to overlook the unique challenges we face.

I am calling on the Minister for Infrastructure to urgently address this issue and allocate the necessary funding to repair and maintain our roads to an acceptable standard. Our roads are vital to the local economy, public safety, and the daily lives of my constituents, and they deserve better.

North Down cannot afford to be overlooked any longer. I will continue to advocate for fair funding and action to ensure our roads are safe, reliable, and fit for purpose.
