As the Member of Parliament for North Down, I recognise the vital trade relationships between Northern Ireland and Wales, particularly in key sectors such as agriculture and textiles. These industries are not just the backbone of our local economies but also essential contributors to jobs, investment, and regional prosperity.

With increasing discussions around economic growth and development in Wales, it is imperative that Northern Ireland is not overlooked. Our two regions have long enjoyed strong trade links, and it is only fair that any economic advancements in Wales also bring tangible benefits to businesses and workers in Northern Ireland.

I will be engaging with both the UK Government and Welsh counterparts to ensure that trade policies and economic strategies acknowledge and reinforce this interdependence. It is crucial that any growth initiatives, infrastructure investments, or market expansion opportunities in Wales are designed with the mutual benefit of Northern Ireland in mind.

Our farmers, textile manufacturers, and wider business community deserve a fair and balanced economic approach that supports their growth and ensures they remain competitive in both UK and international markets. I will continue working to safeguard these interests and ensure that Northern Ireland’s voice is heard in shaping trade policies that impact both regions.
