I am deeply concerned about the extensive damage caused by Storm Eowyn across North Down, which has left many homes and businesses counting the cost of fallen trees, dislodged slates, and damage to both residential and commercial properties. The roof of the Aurora Leisure Centre being damaged once again highlights the severity of the storm.

While it is a relief that there have been no fatalities, many homes remain without electricity, and I understand the frustrations and challenges this creates for families and businesses.

I want to take this opportunity to commend the outstanding efforts of all the emergency services, council staff, and utility workers who braved the storm to assist those in need and are now working tirelessly to clear up the aftermath and restore services.

I would also like to thank Ards and North Down Borough Council for their swift response in opening emergency centres across the area to provide support for those without power. Their commitment to the community during these difficult times has been commendable.

I urge residents to continue to check in on vulnerable neighbours and loved ones, and to contact the appropriate authorities if they require assistance. My office remains available to support constituents with any issues related to the storm.

Together, we will recover from this challenging event, and I will continue to do all I can to ensure the needs of North Down are met in the days ahead.
