I am very pleased to welcome the announcement that Grey Point Fort at Helen’s Bay will be reopened to the public on a seasonal basis this summer. Following my recent enquiry, I am encouraged by the commitment from the Historic Environment Division (HED) to open this important State Care Monument at least once a week during July and August, on Mondays from 10am to 4pm.

Grey Point Fort is a significant historical site in North Down, and I know many residents and visitors alike have long looked forward to seeing it accessible once again. It is excellent news that HED has already opened the fort for VE Day commemorations in May, and that it will also open for Armed Forces Day on 21st June, with enhanced experiences being planned for that special occasion.

Furthermore, I welcome the announcement that a feasibility study is being procured to consider long-term options for the fort, with the aim of completion in the 2025/26 financial year. This is a positive step towards ensuring the future preservation and sustainable use of the site.

I would encourage everyone to make use of these opening days over the summer, and I will continue to engage with the Department to support the future of Grey Point Fort.
