I was pleased to raise in Parliament the vital importance of counselling services in supporting female offenders who are dealing with trauma, addiction, and mental health challenges. Access to effective counselling is a key part of rehabilitation and reintegration into society, and it is essential that we do all we can to ensure these services are available and well-resourced.

I also took the opportunity to highlight the outstanding work of the charity uHub, based in my North Down constituency. uHub continues to provide exceptional counselling support for young women, and I commend their dedicated staff and volunteers who make a real difference in our community every day.

I welcome the Minister’s recognition of the importance of these services and will continue to advocate for increased investment and support for mental health and counselling provision across Northern Ireland.
