PRESS STATEMENT

Alex Easton MP – North Down

Following a meeting at Westminster with Alzheimer’s Research UK, Alex Easton MP has called for greater urgency in dementia diagnosis, research and treatment.

Mr Easton said:

“I was pleased to meet Alzheimer’s Research UK at Westminster and hear more about the vital work being done to tackle dementia.

Dementia affects thousands of families across the United Kingdom, including many here in North Down. Behind every diagnosis is a family facing worry, pressure and heartbreak.

It is deeply concerning that one in three people with dementia may be living without a formal diagnosis. Early diagnosis is essential so families can access support, plan ahead, and benefit from new treatments as they become available.

I welcome the progress being made in dementia research, including blood tests, earlier diagnosis, new treatments and prevention through better brain health.

I will continue to support efforts in Parliament to improve dementia services, increase research, speed up diagnosis, and ensure fair access to new treatments.

Dementia must be treated as a national priority. Families in North Down and across the UK deserve action, investment and hope.”
