I am absolutely appalled at the disgraceful condition of the Council-owned car park in Millisle, which is riddled with more than 70 potholes. This is not just a case of poor maintenance — this is outright neglect, and it is unacceptable.

Millisle is a seaside village with huge potential for tourism. Families, visitors, and local residents alike deserve safe and accessible facilities, yet the Council has allowed this car park to fall into a state of disrepair that is nothing short of embarrassing. How can we expect to attract tourists and support local businesses when the very first impression they get is a crater-ridden car park that looks more like a rally track than a welcoming gateway to the area?

Let me be clear — this is not helping tourism. In fact, it is damaging our reputation as a visitor destination.

I am calling on Ards and North Down Borough Council to take immediate and urgent action. The failure to maintain this car park is a failure of leadership and priorities. Ratepayers deserve better. Businesses in Millisle deserve better. Visitors to our beautiful coastline deserve better.

It’s time the Council stopped turning a blind eye and started delivering for the ratepayers who fund their salaries and their decisions. I will be demanding answers and pushing for a full resurfacing of the Millisle car park without further delay.

This shambolic situation must end.
