Alex Easton MP Welcomes Progress on Ballymaconnell Pedestrian Crossing
Alex Easton MP has welcomed the commencement of works on the new pedestrian crossing at the junction of the East Circular Road and Ballymaconnell Road, describing it as a positive step forward for pupil safety at St Columbanus’ College and for local residents.
Mr Easton said:
“I am pleased to see this long-awaited crossing now progressing. I first raised this issue directly with the Department for Infrastructure and with the school following concerns from parents about pupils having to cross this busy road.
“Before other parties became involved, I had already begun lobbying DfI years ago and working with St Columbanus’ College to push for a safer crossing point. This has always been about protecting young people and improving road safety for everyone in the area.
“This is a practical outcome that comes from listening to local families and taking their concerns straight to the authorities. While there is still more to do across North Down on road safety, I welcome this important development and will continue to press for improvements where they are needed.”
Mr Easton added:
“I want to thank the parents and school staff who contacted me and helped highlight the urgency of this issue. I will continue working with DfI to ensure the crossing is delivered on schedule and operates effectively once completed.”
