Easton Welcomes Road Safety Improvements at Craigantlet Crossroads

North Down MP Alex Easton has welcomed the £50,000 investment to deliver road safety improvements at the Ballymiscaw Road / Whinney Hill junction at Craigantlet.

Mr Easton said the works are an important step in improving safety at what is widely recognised as a busy rural junction connecting key routes towards Dundonald, Belfast, Holywood, Bangor, and Newtownards.

The scheme involves removing the existing left-turn slip lane from Whinney Hill onto Ballymiscaw Road. Simplifying the layout of the junction will reduce potential conflict points between vehicles and lower turning speeds, helping to create a safer environment for all road users.

Alex Easton MP said:

“I welcome this £50,000 investment to improve safety at Craigantlet crossroads. This junction is used daily by residents, commuters, and visitors travelling between several key routes across North Down and the surrounding areas.

“For some time there have been concerns locally about traffic movements and safety at this junction, so any measures that help reduce risks and improve the overall layout are to be welcomed.

“By removing the slip lane and simplifying the junction, the works should help reduce potential conflict points between vehicles and make the junction easier and safer to navigate for drivers.”

Work began on Monday 2 March and is expected to be completed by Friday 6 March, subject to favourable weather and progress on site.

During the construction period, three-way temporary traffic lights are operating at the Ballymiscaw Road / Whinney Hill junction. Motorists are being asked to drive with care, follow all temporary signage, and be mindful of road workers operating close to live traffic.

Mr Easton added:

“I would ask motorists for patience while these important works are carried out. Some delays are likely at times, but the improvements should help deliver a safer junction for everyone using this route.”
