PRESS STATEMENT

Alex Easton MP – North Down

I have received an update regarding the proposed public realm scheme in Millisle under the Small Settlements Programme, and I want to ensure residents are fully informed of the current position.

The funding for the Millisle scheme is dependent on underspends from projects in other areas. Unfortunately, delays to those projects—primarily due to weather conditions—mean that a final budget allocation is not expected to be confirmed until late April.

At present, the scope of the scheme remains unchanged, with plans to carry out resurfacing works on both sides of Main Street.

I welcome the recognition that any construction work must avoid the busy summer period in Millisle. It is therefore proposed that works would begin in September, with engagement and communication with local stakeholders taking place over July and August.

It is also important to note that this programme is funded jointly by the Department for Communities, DAERA, and the Department for Infrastructure, with the Council working directly alongside the Department for Infrastructure to deliver the improvements.

I will continue to engage closely with all relevant departments and stakeholders to ensure this project is delivered in a timely manner and with minimal disruption to residents, businesses, and visitors.

Millisle deserves investment and improvement, and I will continue to push to ensure this scheme progresses without unnecessary delay.
