Alex Easton MP has expressed his surprise and delight after it was announced that North Down has won the UK Parliament Week Annual Award for the Northern Ireland region.
The award recognises that, over the past year, North Down has recorded the most school and youth group engagements held at Westminster from anywhere in Northern Ireland, as part of UK Parliament Week (UKPW).
Alex Easton MP said:
“I am a bit gobsmacked as I really wasn’t expecting this. To win the UK Parliament Week annual award for the Northern Ireland region is a huge honour for North Down. This recognition is down to the incredible enthusiasm and commitment shown by our local schools and youth organisations in engaging with democracy and the work of Parliament.”
“I want to say a massive well done to all the schools and youth organisations who took part. A huge congratulations to you all for having the most UKPW sign-ups in Northern Ireland – this is your award. Your willingness to get involved, ask questions and participate in the democratic process is what has made this achievement possible.”
Mr Easton added that he looks forward to continuing to welcome even more schools and youth groups from North Down to Westminster over the coming year, to build on this success and encourage the next generation to take an active interest in politics and public life.
