North Down MP Alex Easton has tabled an Early Day Motion in the House of Commons to mark the 50th anniversary of Bangor Ladies Choir and to recognise the outstanding contribution the choir has made to cultural life in Bangor and across Northern Ireland over the past five decades.
Mr Easton recently visited one of the choir’s evening practices at Bangor West Church, where members performed for him and shared memories from the choir’s rich history.
Speaking after presenting the Early Day Motion, Mr Easton said:
“Bangor Ladies Choir has been a tremendous ambassador for our city for the past 50 years. Through their dedication, talent and commitment, they have brought enjoyment to countless people and have played an important role in the cultural life of our community.
“It was a pleasure to visit one of the choir’s evening practices at Bangor West Church and meet members past and present. I was delighted when the choir performed Coldplay’s ‘Viva La Vida’ for me. It was a wonderful experience and showcased the exceptional talent that exists within the group.
“What struck me most was the remarkable dedication of the members, including some who have been involved since the choir’s earliest days. To see an organisation continue to flourish after 50 years is a tremendous achievement and a testament to everyone who has contributed to its success.
“I felt it was only right that this milestone should be recognised in Parliament. The Early Day Motion acknowledges not only the choir’s musical achievements but also its contribution to community spirit, friendship and civic pride throughout Bangor and beyond.
“I congratulate Bangor Ladies Choir on reaching this significant anniversary and wish them every success for the future.”
The Early Day Motion recognises Bangor Ladies Choir’s contribution to cultural life, community cohesion and civic pride, and records Parliament’s congratulations as the choir celebrates its 50th anniversary.
