North Down MP Alex Easton has welcomed confirmation from the Department for Infrastructure that a carriageway resurfacing scheme is to be carried out on Albany Road, Bangor, following more than five years of lobbying and representations on behalf of local residents.
The scheme will extend from Asbury Avenue to No. 92 Albany Road and is expected to be completed during Summer 2026.
Alex Easton MP said:
“I am delighted that the Department for Infrastructure has now confirmed this much-needed resurfacing scheme for Albany Road after more than five years of lobbying on behalf of local residents.
“For many years I have been pressing the Department to address the poor condition of this road. I have raised the issue repeatedly through correspondence and discussions with the Department, highlighting the concerns of those who live in the area and use the road every day.
“This announcement is welcome news and is the result of a long campaign to secure investment for Albany Road. Residents have shown great patience while waiting for these works to be approved and delivered.
“The resurfacing scheme will improve road safety, enhance driving conditions and help protect the road surface for years to come.
“I also welcome the Department’s intention to carry out the works during the summer period when the nearby school is closed, helping to minimise disruption for residents, parents and commuters.
“I will continue to engage with the Department as the scheme progresses and will keep residents updated as further details become available.”
The Department for Infrastructure has advised that further information, including the exact start date and any temporary traffic management arrangements, will be announced once the programme of works has been finalised.
