Alex Easton has expressed his deep concern following the shooting incident in the Bloomfield Road area of Bangor on Tuesday evening.
Mr Easton said:
“I am deeply shocked and concerned by the shooting incident which took place in the Bloomfield Road area of Bangor last night.
My thoughts are with the victim and his family at this extremely difficult time. While I understand his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening, they have been described as severe and will undoubtedly leave both physical and emotional trauma.
There can never be any justification for this type of violence on the streets of our city. Incidents like this cause fear, alarm and distress within the wider community and must be condemned outright.
I want to pay tribute to the PSNI and the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service for their swift response to the incident and ongoing investigation.
I would strongly urge anyone who may have witnessed anything suspicious, or who may have CCTV, dashcam or other footage from the area around the time of the attack, to come forward and assist police with their enquiries.
Bangor is a strong community and people deserve to feel safe in their homes and on their streets. Those responsible for this disgraceful act must be brought before the courts.”
