Press Statement – Alex Easton MP
Alex Easton MP has recently visited Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service crews following the major fire at Fusco Vehicle Sales in Bangor, where he formally presented an Early Day Motion in Parliament recognising their outstanding work.
During the visit, he met with firefighters and personnel who were involved in tackling the blaze and thanked them for their courage, professionalism and swift response, which prevented the fire from spreading to nearby businesses, including a fuel depot.
Speaking after the visit, Alex Easton MP said:
“I recently visited our local Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service crews to personally present an Early Day Motion recognising their exceptional efforts during the Fusco fire.
Their swift and decisive actions undoubtedly prevented what could have been a far more serious incident. With a fuel depot and many other businesses in close proximity, the consequences could have been catastrophic. They quite simply saved surrounding businesses.
It was also important for me to see first-hand the wide range of equipment they use every day — from responding to major fires to dealing with road traffic collisions and other emergencies. The level of training, skill and dedication on display is remarkable.
Our firefighters put themselves in harm’s way to protect others, and I want to place on record my sincere thanks for everything they do for our community.
Local businesses are already under significant financial pressure, and the loss of further premises would have been devastating. Thanks to the professionalism of our emergency services, that was avoided.”
He added:
“I will continue to support our emergency services and ensure their vital work is properly recognised both locally and at Westminster.”
