Press Statement – Alex Easton MP (North Down)

I condemn in the strongest possible terms the arson attack in Ashbury Gardens, Bangor, at approximately 4.15am, during which a car and a property were deliberately set alight.

This was a dangerous act that could have had catastrophic consequences. While I am relieved that the two occupants were able to get out safely and that no injuries have been reported, the fear and distress caused by an attack of this nature is profound.

Bangor is a law-abiding community, and we will not allow a small number of criminals to endanger lives or undermine residents’ sense of safety. Those responsible must be identified quickly and dealt with robustly through the justice system.

I would urge anyone who was in the area at the time, or who holds any relevant information — including CCTV, doorbell footage or dashcam recordings — to contact the PSNI on 101, quoting reference 234 of 04/01/26. Reports can also be made via the PSNI’s online reporting system, and anyone wishing to remain anonymous can contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

My thoughts are with those affected as they begin to deal with the aftermath of this terrifying incident.
